FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

FOUNDATION FUND

The First United Methodist Church Foundation Fund was established on June 23, 1998.  Under the direction of the six members of the Board of Directors, three endowment accounts have been set up in the Fund:  scholarships; mission; and church improvement. These accounts are invested in long-term endowment accounts, and as such, only

the income can be disbursed.  By law, the principal of the fund cannot be invaded except for extreme emergencies. Your gift is preserved so it can "keep on giving" in perpetuity.

Gifts are fully tax-exempt and tax-deductible.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are provided for church members for education after the first year of college.  Application forms are to be submitted each spring to the Board of Directors, and if accepted, payment to the college of the student's preference will be made in August. Both youth and adults are eligible to apply.  This is a one-time award for each person.  One exception to the guidelines is that a scholarship may be awarded by the Board, according to its discretion.  Inquiries regarding application forms and guidelines may be directed to the church office or by contacting one of the directors listed below.

MISSION OUTREACH

Designated funds will be disbursed according to directions.  Undesignated funds will be disbursed at the discretion of the Board of Directors.

CHURCH IMPROVEMENT FUND

The Church Improvement Fund was established in June 2004.  The purpose is to provide funds for church building improvement projects related to the physical plant of the church when the annual church budget is not sufficient to meet needs or when an unexpected need arises.  Guidelines for application for disbursement of funds are available in the church office.

HOW CAN GIFTS BE MADE?

Regardless of which of the three funds one gives to, the following ways of giving are suggested:  cash and securities, life insurance, real estate, planned gifts, and retirement funds.  Any of the six members of the Board of Directors will be pleased to discuss these options with you.  Gifts may be made as memorials, honorariums, or simply as payments outright.

FOUNDATION FUND BROCHURES ARE AVAILABLE IN THE CHURCH LIBRARY.
